James Butterwick, based in London, began collecting and selling Russian art in 1985 and has established himself as one of the world’s leading experts. As the market for Russian avant-garde art heats up, so does the frequency of forgeries of such prized artists as Goncharova, Malevich, and El Lissitzky. In a recent article for ArtNews, James Butterwick claimed that “most of the Russian avant-garde works are on the market are fakes-ten times as many fakes as genuine works”. Join us for a lecture where we will share information on the fascinating story of Russian fakes.
