James Butterwick began collecting and dealing in Russian Art in 1985 and is now established as one of the world's leading experts. At the forefront of the boom in matters Russian, James moved to Moscow in 1994 and became a member of the Russian Society of Private Collectors. He forms major collections, contributes to many museum exhibitions and lectures
on the history of Russian Art.
James acts as a source for museum quality paintings of the Russian and European School with impeccable provenance and has access to leading Western experts, private collections and museums in any field of the arts. He personally guarantees the authenticity of all items he sells.
In October 2008 James Butterwick was elected onto the CIS and Russia International Confederation of Antique and Art dealers, the most prestigious group of its kind. James Butterwick is the only foreign member. Though travelling regularly to Russia, James is based in London where he owns a by appointment only gallery.
